‘One-man-band’ threatens veteran broadcast veterans (AUDIO)

Michael Jackson, the war in Iraq, and the Salt Lake City Olympic Games are just a few of the topics that Christian Galdabini has covered during his career as a videographer. His 17 years of broadcast experience used to be enough to keep a steady flow of clients.

But “one-man bands” or “backpack journalists” are emerging as new competitors in the field of journalism and may be putting long-time broadcasters out of work. Galdabini fears that these upcoming journalists who can shoot video, record audio, write the story, and edit the whole package will ultimately become a threat to specialists.
